Valencia is a neighborhood within the city of Santa Clarita, California. The neighborhood started as an unincorporated master-planned community in the 1960s. In 1987, Valencia merged with Saugus, Newhall, and Canyon Country to form the City of Santa Clarita. Today it makes up a western portion of Santa Clarita along Interstate 5. Incorporated parts of the city are east of the freeway, and these parts are subject to the jurisdiction of the City of Santa Clarita. Unincorporated portions of Valencia are west of Interstate 5. Like other unincorporated areas, this part falls under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County. Many large companies are based out of Valencia, and several famous actors also come from the area.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pretrial Release
How do I know how much bail is required?
Bail depends on the seriousness of the offense you have been accused of. In the case of minor offenses, an officer will often accept the defendant’s promise to appear in court at the specified date and time without appearing before a judge or posting any type of bond. More serious offenses might require you to appear before a judge so that they may set your release conditions. (In addition to bail, this can include orders to stay away from the scene of the incident or people involved in the incident.) The prosecutor asks the judge for the amount of bail, and your defense attorney has the chance to counter these arguments with evidence that you are not a flight risk and will appear in court for your scheduled hearings. The judge then decides what amount of bail is appropriate.
Will I have to stay in jail before my trial?
In the case of very serious offenses, the judge might decide not to let you post bail at all. (These circumstances usually involve murder and other very serious crimes.) In other cases, you might have the right to post bail, but the amount is so high that it is not feasible to pay it, so you will have to remain in jail until your case is resolved through a plea deal or at trial. Bail can also be prohibitive if the judge orders it to be paid in cash. In that case, you cannot post collateral with the court, and a bail bondsman will be unable to post collateral on your behalf. Your attorney can appear before the judge and argue against prohibitive bail conditions. If the judge decides to order a cash bond, a high amount, or denies bail altogether, you could be stuck in jail until your case is resolved, which is why it is important to have a lawyer on your side. Without your own attorney, the prosecutor can essentially ask the judge for whatever release and bail conditions they want. Hiring an attorney can make a huge difference in your life between the time of your arrest and the time of trial.
