Yesterday Morning, James White Jr. was killed during an officer-involved shooting. White was shot when police officers opened fire in Universal City Walk after hearing gunfire and seeing an individual with a gun. The shooting took place near the Infusion lounge.
The L.A. County Fire Department pronounced the suspected gunman dead at the scene of the crime. Several people sustained injuries as they were trying to escape. In total three people were transported to hospitals, two with reported “serious injuries” and another with “trauma injuries.”
When questioned about the incident, Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Barry Montgomery had this to say “It’s a shooting, simply a shooting of someone in the crowd who was armed with a handgun, and an officer involved shooting occurred as a result.”
Montgomery also mentioned that a handgun was retrieved by police and referred to the White as a “suspect.”
A witness who recorded the incident on his cellphone said that before shots were heard, a fight had broken out during a DJ battle. According to the video recording two shots were fired, but the shooter was not clearly visible.
A statement provided by Universal read “As one of L.A.’s most visited family destinations, CityWalk will continue to provide the most comprehensive security available. We are committed to the safety and security of our guests and are working closely with law enforcement as their investigation unfolds in this isolated incident.”
A spokeswoman for Universal said that both Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk will be open for business as usual.
